Shkodra, the first city who welcomed “BiblioTech” project
June 14, 2022Shkodra, May 4, 2022 — The city of Shkodra has officially opened its doors to the BiblioTech model, an innovative concept developed by the Albania Sustainable Development Organization (ASDO) in partnership with UNICEF Albania and the Municipality of Shkodra.
The new BiblioTech space, inaugurated in December 2021, represents a milestone in promoting digital inclusion and youth empowerment through technology. Designed as an open, tech-friendly learning environment, the initiative aims to reduce the digital divide and prepare children and young people for the skills of tomorrow.
Equipped with modern technology and interactive learning tools, BiblioTech Shkodra offers training programs on digital literacy, online safety, web development, entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies such as blockchain and AI. The space serves as a bridge between education, creativity, and innovation — helping young people connect their ideas to real-world opportunities.
The inauguration ceremony brought together key representatives, including Voltana Ademi, Mayor of Shkodra, and Dr. Roberto De Bernardi, UNICEF Representative in Albania. Both highlighted the importance of empowering youth through technology and fostering safe, inclusive, and knowledge-driven communities.
As part of ASDO’s broader mission, BiblioTech continues to expand across Albania. The initiative has already reached other cities such as Tirana and aims to develop a national network of public digital hubs, providing access to technology, mentorship, and innovation for all.
Through the collaboration between UNICEF Albania, ASDO, and local municipalities, BiblioTech has become a recognized national model for youth digital education and inclusion — most recently awarded First Prize for Creativity and Innovation at the Inspire Awards 2023 for its social impact and transformative approach.
