BiblioTech Callange 3.0
October 30, 2023The city of Shkodra hosted a remarkable event, “UN Week in Shkodra,” bringing together organizations, educators, and community leaders to highlight the significance of education and child safety. This year, a prominent participant in the event was the Albania Sustainable Development Organization (ASDO), which presented its groundbreaking BiblioTech initiative.
BiblioTech: A Beacon for Child Safety and Tech Skills
The BiblioTech initiative, pioneered by ASDO more than 3 years ago, is a pioneering program that empowers children and youth with vital tech skills while ensuring their safety in the digital realm. This initiative, funded by UNICEF Albania, has been instrumental in promoting a secure and enriching online experience for Shkodra’s youth.
The UN Week in Shkodra event provides an ideal platform for ASDO to showcase the remarkable work achieved through the BiblioTech program. Attendees will have the opportunity to witness the positive impact of BiblioTech on the children and youth of Shkodra through interactive presentations, success stories, and live demonstrations.
ASDO representatives along with Fiona McCluney (UN Resident Coordinator), Roberto de Bernardi (UNICEF Representative), Manuela Bello (UNFPA Head of Office), Michele Ribotta (UN Women Representative and Chair of UN Albania Gender Group) and Toshitsuki Kawauchi (UNHCR Representative). They visited the BiblioTech corner at the “Atelie” Youth Center in Shkodra, got to know the work done at the center by and from youth that frequent the youth center, discussing the origins, objectives, and impressive outcomes of BiblioTech and plans for the future.
Lastly and to conclude the visit, the representatives from different UN Agencies, visited an exhibition with works collected from the Tech Camp, and where students recreated the spaces and the buildings that they would want to improve in the city.
UN Week in Shkodra was an exceptional opportunity to celebrate education, child safety, and the transformative power of initiatives like BiblioTech.
