The BiblioTech Pogradec initiative, implemented by the Albania Sustainable Development Organization (ASDO), aims to transform public libraries into vibrant digital literacy hubs for children, youth, and the wider community. By leveraging existing public spaces, the project fosters digital inclusion, promotes safe internet use, and bridges the intergenerational digital divide in Albania.
Through this initiative, children and young people are equipped with the tools and knowledge to safely navigate the digital world, while parents and caregivers are engaged to become more digitally aware, reducing the gap between generations in an increasingly technology-driven society.
🏫 Project Integration Across Albania
The BiblioTech model, now expanding in Pogradec, joins six other public spaces across Albania that have been transformed into community-based ICT incubators:
- 📍 “Hamit Beqja”, “Musine Kokalari”, “Misto Treska”, and “Aleksandër Moisiu” Libraries – Tirana
- 📍 “Qendra Atelie” – Shkodra
- 📍 “Biblioteka Thimi Mitko” – Korça
These spaces serve as Friendly WiFi zones, officially certified to protect children and youth from harmful online content such as adult material and child sexual abuse content.
🎯 Key Objectives
- Enhance digital literacy among children and youth in Pogradec through interactive, hands-on learning experiences.
- Promote online safety in public spaces by offering filtered internet access, awareness sessions, and guidance for families.
- Foster intergenerational learning by engaging parents in digital education alongside their children.
- Empower local communities through tech-based workshops, coding events, and innovation sessions on topics such as startups, cyber hygiene, and the digital economy.
