UNESCO protected sites
September 10, 2015ASDO, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of Albania and with UNESCO’s support, is implementing the project “Albania’s UNESCO Protected Sites in 100 Photos.”
The project aims to provide the younger generation with an overview of Albania’s cultural heritage treasures recognized in world heritage. It will run from July to December 2015, with all activities taking place in Albania.
Two professional photographers traveled to Gjirokastra, Berat, and Butrint to capture images of the protected sites. They took 100 professional photos, each paired with a brief story about the site’s significance.
The traveling exhibition launched on October 25, 2015, and will visit 10 cities across Albania. The exhibition seeks to raise awareness about the importance of preserving cultural heritage. This is the first time that Albania’s UNESCO protected sites will appear together for primary and secondary school students, allowing them to explore their country’s cultural heritage.
At the end of the project, the exhibition will open at the National Historical Museum of Albania. The inauguration will take place in the presence of the Minister of Culture, the Minister of Education and Sport, representatives from the National UNESCO Committee, and UNESCO officials.
