May 13, 2024Training of Trainers Program Empowers Labour Inspectors to Address Unfair Working Conditions for Migrant Workers
In an effort to strengthen the capacities of Labour Inspectors and improve the labour conditions for migrant workers in Albania, 25 representatives from the National Labour and Social Services Inspectorate participated in a two-day training conducted by the project “Empowering Migrant Workers through a 3-R Framework” undertaken by the Albania Sustainable Development Organization (ASDO), in collaboration with the State Labour and Social Services Inspectoriate, funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Albania as part of the “Shaping Development-Oriented Migration” Program.
TASDO organized a two-day training in Tirana on May 8th and 9th, 2024, to equip labour inspectors with the skills to address unfair working conditions for migrant workers and to raise awareness about their labour rights.
The training covered various topics and activities designed to provide inspectors with a tailored framework for supporting migrant workers. Key highlights included:
Day 1: Legal Framework and the Role of ISHPSHSH Inspectors (May 8, 2024)
- Experts discussed labour rights in migration and international standards.
- Trainers provided an overview of the Albanian legal framework for emigrant labour rights.
- Participants analyzed case studies and engaged in discussions to explore real-world applications.
Day 2: Soft Skills and Support Services (May 9, 2024)
- Trainers taught effective communication and conflict management skills to help inspectors handle ethical challenges.
- Facilitators led discussions on support services for migrant workers and showed how inspectors can improve access to these services.
Eldisa Zhebo, a specialist in labour rights and employment, facilitated the sessions. Participants actively engaged in interactive discussions, group work, and case studies to apply the knowledge in their professional roles.
This training marked a significant step in improving the enforcement of laws that protect migrant workers’ rights in Albania. ASDO continues to support labour inspectors by providing the tools and knowledge they need to combat unfair working conditions and ensure justice for all workers.
The project “Empowering Migrant Workers through a 3-R Framework” aims to continue making a positive impact for migrant workers in Albania and address the challenges they face in the workplace. For more information about the project and upcoming activities, please visit this page.
