May 10, 2024ASDO Partners with Save the Children for “Schools for Health” initiative to Promote Child Well-Being in Albania.
Under the “Schools for Health” project initiated by Save the Children, ASDO, led by its team of experts Ada Ilia, Elton Kërçiku and Perseta Grabova, conducted a series of training sessions across six key regions in Albania, including Gjirokastra, Vlora, Fier, Shkodra, Dibra, and Tirana. The training sessions engaged a total of 132 participants, comprising child protection officers, psycho-social school-based staff, psychologists, nurses, doctors from local health centers, as well as representatives from municipalities and the police force. ASDO also organized online capacity-building and awareness-raising sessions in Gjirokastra, Vlora, and Shkodra regions.
In collaboration with Save the Children and the Albanian Agency for the Protection and Rights of Children, the Albanian Center for Sustainable Development (ASDO) has spearheaded a comprehensive training program aimed at promoting child health and well-being in Albania.
The aim of these sessions was to introduce the concept of health education and promotion, emphasizing key topics such as the social determinants of health and the importance of inclusivity in health promotion strategies. Participants had the opportunity to interact and collaborate, sharing ideas and common struggles, with the goal of furthering initiatives to promote children’s health and well-being in their communities.
The online capacity-building sessions targeted 86 students from rural areas, while the awareness-raising sessions engaged 38 community members from various regions. Despite challenges related to technological infrastructure and electricity supply, the cooperation between teachers and volunteers ensured the successful continuation of activities.
Recommendations
Key recommendations stemming from these sessions include the training of teachers and school directors on reporting mechanisms, facilitating more intersectional meetings, reinforcing inter-institutional collaboration, increasing communication after case reporting, capacity-building for Child Protection Units, and developing training modules on responsibilities.
Follow up
Moving forward, ASDO emphasizes the need to continue training efforts, focusing on areas with specific needs, and expand towards topics of sustainable development to ensure the holistic well-being of children in Albania.
