The ongoing project: “Awareness on cyber security and protection of personal data” supported by the Swiss Embassy in Albania, which ASDO team is promoting personal data protection and privacy and cyber security skill, has been actively engaging with high schools, higher education and local communities to raise awareness among them.. Through a series of informative sessions and workshops, the beneficiaries are being equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about their personal data in today’s digital age.
The topics addressed were:
- “Cyber security & artificial intelligence challenges in the 4th digital evolution époque” – 15 June 2023
- “Teaching Young people how to stay safe online” – 6 June 2023
- “GDPR key points from local government authorities” – 9 June 2023
We also facilitated a hands-on training with university students from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, IT Department from 14-16 June.
Collaborating closely with school administrators, teachers, and counselors, the project has ensured maximum participation and impact. The sessions covered a range of topics, including “Cybersecurity & Artificial Intelligence Challenges in the 4th Digital Evolution Epoque,” “Teaching Young People How to Stay Safe Online,” and “GDPR Key Points from Local Government Authorities“. These discussions provided students with valuable insights into online privacy, safe internet practices, social media awareness, and the potential risks associated with sharing sensitive information online.
To enhance the learning experience, interactive teaching methods were utilized, incorporating real-life case studies and practical examples. This approach allowed students to grasp the importance of protecting their personal data and encouraged them to adopt proactive measures to safeguard their privacy.
In addition to the sessions conducted in high schools, a hands-on training was organized for university students from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, IT Department. This initiative aimed to foster a broader understanding of personal data protection among young adults who are pursuing studies in relevant fields.
Happy Onlife
As part of the project, a game called “Happy Onlife,” created by the Information and Data Protection Commissioner, was shared with students to educate them about personal data and its protection. Awareness campaigns were also organized within the schools, where informational pamphlets were distributed and eye-catching posters were displayed, highlighting key principles and guidelines for personal data protection. These materials serve as constant reminders for students to remain vigilant and mindful of their online activities.
Establishing an ongoing dialogue with the students, the project has provided channels for guidance and support, allowing them to seek assistance regarding any concerns they may have about personal data protection. This proactive engagement ensures that students are not only equipped with knowledge but also receive the necessary support to navigate the complexities of the digital world.
The response from both students and educators has been overwhelmingly positive. The project has witnessed a significant increase in awareness and a growing sense of responsibility towards personal data protection within the schools. The enthusiasm displayed by the students during the sessions has been truly inspiring, instilling confidence that these efforts will have a lasting impact on their digital practices.
